Yes, you read that right! This set of releases is dedicated to all those Mitsuhiko lovers out there! (If there are any of those) XD :P

Also, this is a celebration of our 1-year anniversary of Kienai’s first Conan release that wasn’t Movie 11! Everyone get out your party hats and confetti :D

When I look back at our year as a team here at Kienai, comparing our older releases to our more recent ones, I can see how much we’ve grown as a team. Thanks to Kaitoukidsama’s improved encoding skills, our video quality has increased significantly, and as I hope you can see from my opening karaoke in these releases, I’m always striving to improve my typesetting skills as well.

We’ve also had many others who’ve helped us this past year. From having our editor, Jing, come and go, to the timers and QCers, I can tell we are just as dedicated to putting out high quality Conan releases as we were a year ago, and we plan to bring out many more releases in the year to come.

Anyway, as with last year’s release (421-422,433), we bring you another triplet of episodes: 289-290, and 303!

(which, unfortunately contain no references to red pandas)

Detective Conan 289 – 290

I think I can safely say that the whole team enjoyed working on these episodes. Personally, since these were mostly set outdoors meant that there was little ts’ing involved for me, so we could ultimately get these done a lot faster. (Always a plus!)

There’s a funny story about these, though. 290 would have been done in only two encodes, but somehow *points to Parkur* the following line made it into what would have been the release encode…

You can thank (or hate me) for this not being in the release...

Note: the first picture isn’t in the release either XD

Detective Conan 303

This episode was good for what it is, although I could tell it was an AO right off the bat before I even looked up the episode information. Apparently, Mitsuhiko is so smart, he can even outmatch Conan in this ep!

—————————————

In the spirit of teamwork, we also have some staff comments on our first year anniversary:

Kaitoukidsama: It’s been a rough year for me here at Kienai. Things were finally getting on track. Then I decided to move 3000 miles away from everything I knew. Ended up being a more painful experience than I bargained for. First love, First heartbreak, Homelessness, High Unemployment, Bad Roommates… But I feel the experiences I’ve had here in Oregon made it all worthwhile. Towards the end of ‘09, I got back into the saddle and made some things happen.
We got stuff rolling and before we knew it were back in a system… Here’s to a Conan Filled 2010!!!!

—————————————

We’re planning to put out a Valentine’s Day release, and maybe some others before that, so look forward to those!

Balls ^__^

Detective Conan 392

SO! It’s been a while since our team has touched this area. In fact, we haven’t done it since B-Org over a year and a half ago. This episode had no problems with it other than frame issues… so it was easy to release. I worked hard to make the video look as crisp and clean as possible… so that these releases don’t pale in comparison to our friend Skyward’s encodes. We hope that we can continue this in the future. It’s been like 4 days since our last release and we already have one more for you… expect more in the following days.

Major Recruitment

Fresh off our 269-270 release, we’re ready to take on some new staffers. We have a lot of scripts coming in, and are in need of more people to keep the releases timely. Check the rhyme below:

Translators – Must be fluent enough in both Japanese and English to pass our TL test, which is graded by our head translator. Experience is not required.

Translation Checkers – Must have a very high understanding of Japanese and English and be able to perfect translated scripts. Experience is not required, but highly recommended.

Editors – Our editor has left for other projects, so this position is wide open. Must have a mastery of the English language, an advanced vocabulary, and an understanding of script flow and characterization. Experience is required.

Typesetter – Must be experienced, and must be fast. Needs to have advanced knowledge of ASS tags and coding. After Effects knowledge preferred, but not required. Jmaeshawn has very, very high standards, so talk to him specifically if you’re interested in this one.

Quality Checkers – Must be able to point out timing, editing, typesetting, and encoding errors. Slight understanding of Japanese is also a big plus. Experience is not required, but it’s certainly a good thing.

Distro – We’re in need of both XDCC bot providers and torrent seeders. Must have good bandwidth, a GREAT personality, and the time to hang around in/idle on our IRC channel nonstop. When we’re ready to release, we need seeds (you get an early look at all of our releases without doing much work this way, to note~).

If you’re interested, send an email to kienaifansubs@gmail.com or talk to a staff member on our IRC channel (click the “IRC Channel” tab to be directed).

Oh, and look forward to 392 in a week or two!

Conan for Christmas!

Detective Conan 269 – 270

We, at Kienai, are deeply apologetic for the wait on these releases. But you know the whole story so I won’t go into that now. All I can say is that we are getting back into full swing and should be knocking down releases like we used to. We can’t let AZFS keep showing us up >__>. MAKENAI YO!!!! GANBARIMASU!!!! Anywayz… I lazed about a bit and a new B’z release is NOT quite ready but it shall be soon. For now, enjoy the feel of Kienai again and patiently await our next release, which will not take 7 months to put out lol. Thanks for sticking by us. And have a Merry Christmas… even tho I’m miserable :D

Kaitoukidsama hasn’t been able to return to us yet, so Jing’s trying to rally the team. That said, we’re all busy studying for finals at the moment, but we should all be back in top form in about two weeks, when winter break starts. Here’s the rundown:

397 @ TL
289-290 @ Timing
388-389 @ Timing
303 @ Editing
269-270 @ TS Fixes (Has already been QCed, encoding and release will follow very, very shortly after finals)
392 @ Karaoke (Ditto)

(There are also a couple of hi-mi-tsus we’re not ready to reveal yet…)

It’s quite a goal, but I think we’ll be able to release the majority of that list over the break. Apologies and thanks unbound go out to all the folks who’ve been waiting for so long, but I have to ask that you stay patient for just a little while longer–it’ll all be worth it soon. :D

I’d also like to formally welcome our new-ish translators, Escargotpudding and MrRickRoll, to the staff. Both have come back to work with us after long breaks and other fansubbing efforts, and we’re delighted to see them return!

It’s Here~!

At long last, the day has come!

*Ques Music*

After months of waiting, the Blu-Ray disc set of Lupin The Third First Season has arrived!!!

I know we have been slow in releases these past several months, but I can assure you this will not be the case for Lupin, as we have a slightly different team that will be working on these while we continue to work on Conan.

That said, I am going to be studying for my final test in Japanese for the next week or so, but once break starts, I’ll be a-rippin’ these and work will start ASAP. :D

Look forward to some good, old-fashioned Lupin-adventure goodness soon! :)

Train Kept A Rollin’

Aight… so! I did my part my friends… I encoded the QC videos the first chance I could. I’m just waiting on the rest of my team to start working together a bit more without their fearless leader. WHO I might add is rejoining the ranks PERMANENTLY on Nov. 4th… so look forward to that. Finally getting an apartment close to work… and no more girlfriend… so more time for subbing. YAYZ! Oh btw… I finished up Ai no Mama ni Wagamama ni earlier this month… lemme give you a video here for that. Expect releases in November… I WILL get them to you… I swear!

That’s right, our brave leader hath returned! Expect 269-270 out any day now.

On another note, we’ve recently picked up the cost of the entire first series of Lupin on Blu-ray… and, combined with future purchases, that’s a good bit of money. It would help us GREATLY if a few of our dedicated supporters could donate from time to time to help lessen the burden.

Your help is most appreciated. :)

Kienai is Recruiting!

It’s no secret that we’ve had a slow summer, folks, but we’re looking to turn it around for the fall.

Right now, we’re looking for translators and TL checkers. All inquiries and applications should be sent to kienaifansubs@gmail.com.

Tests will be administered for all positions. Translators and TL checkers don’t necessarily need experience, but must be fluent in Japanese and English. All members must be committed to Detective Conan before other shows. We’re looking for dedicated peeps, peeps. :D

And, as always, feel free to visit us on IRC by clicking the “IRC Channel” tab.

Thanks for your continued support!

Update — We’ve got timers and editors aplenty; thanks for your emails! Now, for the most part, we’re looking for translators. Throw us an email if you’re interested in applying, or drop by the IRC channel and PM a staff member.

Cheers~

Hey, Everyone! Big Status update!

Hello, minna-san. I am almost back in action here. I have a job, have an apartment in mind… just need that green to solidify it. So I figure I can give you a few status updates.

Before I get to that though… 26th is my birthday… I expect to see dem comments… aight?

269 – 270 – Waiting on me to encode some QC encodes… Expect those out a day or 2 after I get back.

392 - Typesetting –> QC encode —> Final. Expect that around the same time as 269 – 270.

393 – In Translation

And then there is our joint with AZFS… which is still coming along smoothly. Let’s hope it doesn’t get delayed like our DCTP joint. Expect that release… sometime after 392 or 393.

Also, on the B’z front, there will be a string of releases in September and October. Including the last two single PV’s and a non-single Live performance. So look forward to that as well.

As Jing stated… we are getting Lupin underway. We need people for that. Once we get enough translators we will open the doors for more work in other areas. I say the same for Mermaid Melody Pichi Pichi Pitch. It’s stalled atm due to the main worker being homeless (ME) ^__^

Oh yeah… Homeless atm… but that’s ok… this has been probably the best summer of my life. Plus being homeless isn’t ALL bad. just boring.

Pay attention for releases coming in mid-september. I desire to have an apt by then. It’s getting cold out >.>;;;

Peace till then BROS.
